3rd Annual
Economic Mini-Summit for Women
With Workshop
Presenter
Tekelia C. Kelly, SIB Founder/CEO
Workshop Topic: "How to Go Into
Business!"

On April 9, the Ailey II company will
present master dance classes at two city recreation centers from 6:30 to 8
p.m. A free dance class for boys and girls ages 8 to 12 years old will be
held at the Brainerd Recreation Center, while a $15 class for intermediate
and advanced dancers will be held at the John A. Patten Recreation Center.
Both opportunities will give participants the opportunity to work with
nationally acclaimed dancers from Ailey II. On April 10, Ailey II will
visit the Center for Creative Arts to lead classes with selected middle
and high school students at the public performing arts school.
“We are
thrilled that this nationally acclaimed dance company will be performing
in Chattanooga and reaching out to youth in our community,” says Anna
VanCura of Ballet Tennessee, which is presenting the Ailey II performance
and special events. “Our hope is that Ailey II will inspire young boys and
girls by showing them how exciting a career in dance can be.”
Ballet Tennessee offers several programs
for underrepresented youth in the Chattanooga community, including the
Talent Identification Program and Dance Alive. Each summer, 65 children
participate in Dance Alive, a free dance education program that provides
inner city and rural youth the opportunity to learn ballet and modern
dance alongside seasoned professionals. The program is a collaboration
between Ballet Tennessee and the City of Chattanooga.
Reserved seats
to the Ailey II performance at the Tivoli Theatre range from $10 to $30.
Individual performance tickets can be ordered at (423) 642-8497 or
ChattanoogaOnStage.com. Corporate packages and Evening Packages that also
include an After Glow Dessert Reception are available by contacting Ballet
Tennessee at (423) 821-2055 or visiting www.ballettennessee.org.
Individual
seats and tables of eight are also available for an Ailey II luncheon to
take place on April 10 at Bessie Smith Hall. The luncheon will include a
performance by the Ballet Tennessee Youth Ensemble and a special
presentation by Mayor Ron Littlefield.
The Ailey II
performance and special events are presented by Ballet Tennessee in
partnership with the Chattanooga African American Museum; City of
Chattanooga Parks and Recreation Department; Department of Education, Arts
and Culture; and the Center for Creative Arts. For more information, visit
www.ballettennessee.org.

Women Build Event
Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga
will be starting their
Women Build
Event April 19, 2008. Women
Build is a house totally funded and built by
the women of Chattanooga. This event promotes
the empowerment of women and gives them the
opportunity to explore new talents. It is
even more special this year due to the fact
that we are building an EarthCraft home. It
saves the homeowner money while protecting the
environment. I have attached our brochure
that tells more information on the event.
Feel free to pass it along to those who you
think might be interested.
We are currently looking for event sponsors to
support women build. We have many sponsorship
levels and benefits for businesses that
partner with us.
We are also signing up volunteers right now.
The spots fill up fast, so if you or a
group from your organization would like to
come out and help, I would encourage you to
sign up as soon as possible.
We will work on our construction site every
week starting April 19- the end of July. Our
work days and times are as follows: Wednesdays
9:00am-12:00pm, Thursdays 1:30pm-3:30 pm and
Saturday 9:00-12:00 (Lunch is 12-1) and
1:00-3:00. If you have a large enough group
that would like to come out on Wednesday or
Thursday, we can have work on the construction
site all day. We have room for about 15 women
at one time on the jobsite. If you would like
more information, give me a call or email me.
Thanks!
